National High School Radio Day

The 7th annual National Radio Day took place on April 25. High School radio stations often don’t get the credit they deserve and don’t get the same recognition as other larger radio stations. High school’s across the U.S. participated in this event, including “The Scratch.” This day is celebrated to honor the creativity and uniqueness of radio stations in schools. Students and advisors promote and celebrate this day to make their radio stations known throughout the community. This year members of Jasper High School’s Radio and TV programs participated in their very own “Made From Scratch” drive thru bake sale. Students that are a part of the radio program made homemade baked goods and stood outside of the high school promoting their sale.

“The Scratch,” also known as 93.7, has been around since 2014 and has come a long way since then. Students have their own radio shows and get outside experience when learning the ropes of radio stations. This years radio shows are: Mosh Pit, Trap Shack, Throwback Thursday, and Nerdcast. “It’s a lot of work over the course of the year to build and improve the station, so this day is like a day to celebrate what we’ve accomplished,” said Nick Hodell a member of the Radio and TV two class. The students that contribute to the radio station will continue to work hard through the rest of the year and plan to not only improve their station next year but to make important new changes. “I think it’s the talent that has made the station more personable and we have added new members from all different social groups so this day really reflects on all of our accomplishments,” remarked Hodell.
