Hoops and Homecoming

Last Friday, January 26th, 2018 was Basketball Homecoming. This event is put together by the student council members every year. The homecoming committee and the senior class president, Hannah Welp, along with adviser Julie Ferguson, have worked extremely hard these past couple of months to ensure that this years homecoming would be absolutely perfect! “In the end it is amazing to see how everything turned out. The backdrop and flowers are gorgeous. Also, it is amazing to see the whole council come together to pull off a spectacular event,”  said Welp about all of the hard work. Homecoming week had a series of different dress up days to exhibit our school spirit, posted by the student council. The dress up days were: club shirt day, pajama day, stoplight day, and black and gold day. These dress up days helped get the students excited for Friday’s homecoming game.

Homecoming is a night where the guys and girls of each class who have been elected to represent their class, get to be recognized in front of a packed gym while they walk across the floor in beautiful dresses and suits. The freshmen attendants included Hannah Schwenk, Kyle Sternberg, Lance Dawkins, and Grace Helming. Sophomore attendants were Isabelle Blazey, Jason Mair, Jurney Sturgeon, and Cale Lichlyter. The junior court consisted of Josue Hernandez, Alyssa Skorge, Simon Samuelson, and Ulrika Resare. This year there were two foreign exchange student who were elected to be a part of homecoming court. Juniors, Simon Samuelsson from Spain and Ulrika Resare  from Norway. Having the ability to host exchange students is something

really amazing that Jasper High School is able to do. Last but not least, the senior attendants for homecoming court were Jessica Hurst, Zach Schneider, Emma Grow, Connor Fritch, Madelynne Wagner, and Seth Mendel. After all couples were announced, they all lined up around the three-point line while crowners, Hannah Welp and Eric Nordhoff walked through. After a moment of suspense, Emma Grow and Connor Fritch were crowned homecoming king and queen and I’m sure emotions, especially happiness, ran high. After all the nerves and preparation for the big night, the court was able to sit down together and enjoy some popcorn while they watched the boys basketball team as they defeated Dubois 53-40 after a tough game.
